Relaxation ideas

March 30, 2021

by Tameea Lock

In our fast-paced society, sometimes life becomes stressful and it can be difficult to find ways to relax. With an endless to-do list, it can be difficult to prioritise ourselves, so here are four ways I de-stress in my own life, and maybe you’ll find them helpful too:

Start with a cup of tea or coffee and maybe some chocolate

Every time I go to sit down and start my work, I have a cup of tea. For me it has become a part of my routine and is now a way to help me remain calm and focus on whatever I have to get done. As for the chocolate part, it is known to be a source of antioxidants, so use this to your advantage and reward yourself for your hard work.

Go on a walk outside

A walk is always such a great opportunity to clear your head. After a walk, even though I have taken time off, I feel ready to work harder and I’m ultimately more productive. In walking you can achieve two important things, exercise and quietude.

Play with a pet – The best therapist has fur and four legs”

Now this is my top tip. As when I play with my two dogs, Teddy and Lexie, I feel happy and I feel refreshed. It doesn’t take long to do this, but just by throwing a ball for them and seeing their happiness, I feel joyful.

Take a break

Now this seems obvious, but it is extremely difficult to do. Prior to this year, even if I was tired, I would keep on going and wouldn’t listen to my body. But ultimately, I was not productive in this time so I was wasting valuable time that I could be using to relax. So, if you feel like you need a break, take one, listen to your body and then once you feel refreshed start again. Have a break, go watch your favourite TV show, bake some banana bread, do a painting, listen to some music or simply get to bed early.
