A few weeks ago, I arrived at school to find the 150 lockers of girls in my grade each with a bright encouragement letter stuck upon them. As each girl arrived at school instantly you could see the impact it had upon them, making them smile and making the week before our school assessments much more positive.
Something I noticed as the day went on was that the notes not only impacted everyone who received them but also those that wrote them. As the few girls that wrote these notes were uplifted and energised noticing the impact they had on others.
This shows us how powerful the process of encouraging others is and that it is beneficial to the giver and the receiver. It also reveals that encouragement doesn’t have to take place through a grand gesture, rather a small post-it-note with a few sentences can support someone and make them feel valued whether at school, at the workplace or at home.
So, why not try this out, it only takes 30 seconds.
Next time you’re at your desk, grab a post it notes and write down a few encouraging words and see the power it has to inspire you and motivate others.
